So I think it's important to preface this by saying I went into The Fifth Knight with some pretty strong bias—I've never read harlem or reverse harlem, and I think a large part of my hesitation lays in the reason I hate love triangles: I can't stop screaming "pick one" and it's frustrating! xDThat said, I'm already a fan of Jesikah's work so I knew I had to give it a shot and am absolutely stoked at the beautiful book she and Claire created!Romances aside, since that's an inevitable and important part of reverse harem, the underlying story is brilliant. Not only did these two take great steps toward historical accuracy, I never felt like I was reading the same old Arthur legend rehashed again. Jesikah and Claire brought these characters vividly to life, with beautifully contrasting personalities that kept me flipping pages. The world they built around them was familiar but new, and their writing styles fit together so well that the words flowed smoothly, with none of the disjointing you'll occasionally find in co-written work.As to the romance side of things, in this book there were only two mature scenes and both were well written—they weren't crude, and the second stood out to me as kind of particularly beautiful. Despite that instinctual misgiving, I kind of can't stop rooting them all on for different reasons! xDIf you're not a fan of harem or reverse harem, or you've never tried the genre before, this is totally worth the read. The story and characters are just too rich to be ignored!tl;dr—The Fifth Knight is a fresh take on the Arthurian legend. Claire and Jesikah brought the familiar characters vividly to life in a beautiful, romantic re-imagining that had me sucked in from the very first word.

I’ve been a fan of Claire Luana’s work since I read Moonburner in 2017. When I heard she was collaborating with fellow YA Fantasy author Jesikah Sundin for an Adult Fantasy Reverse Harem Romance trilogy, I knew it was going to be good, and ended up with a fun read. The story follows King Arthur and his three knights, Percival, Lancelot and Galahad as they look for a fifth knight to help break the curse that has a hold on Caerleon and Excalibur. That titular fifth knight is Fionna, tasked on stealing Excalibur to save her family. However, she finds herself conflicted as she bonds with the other knights in more ways than one.The story was gripping and even though I saw the plot twist coming, I was emotionally invested in how it would play out. There’s plenty of action in both the fight scenes as well as the sultry, sexy kind. Unlike their Young Adult novels, this is fairly adult, with a sex scene. Luana and Sundin took a gamble and they passed in my eyes.I related to each of the knights and their personalities, especially Fionna. All of them were fleshed out well and were distinct in background and personality. The interactions between the characters was well done and the group really felt like friends as the story moved forward, and I ended up laughing a few times throughout. The world building and mythology is well thought out, all based on Arthurian lore and given it’s own twist to feel fresh. The prose is vivid and flows nicely throughout, which is not easy for a collaborated novel. The ending was satisfying and ties up this book’s storyline, but leaves more than enough loose ends to chew on for The Third Curse, the second book in the series. I’m looking forward to reading that to see more of the adventure and character interactions I liked so much.

From the very first pages, I knew this was going to be a story I'd enjoy losing myself in. Every page is filled with gorgeous, poetic prose and deliciously vivid imagery that makes it easy to fall into the magical world that Luana and Sundin have masterfully created. The folklore and mythology were riveting, the world-building transported me right into every last scene, and the cast of characters made for an engaging and entertaining read.I loved experiencing the camaraderie between Arthur and his knights especially. Their banter saw me laughing out loud more than once, but I also enjoyed the deep brotherhood they share and the obvious love they have for one another. The authors did a beautiful job of bringing these men to life and giving them each distinct personalities. They play off each other so well. And Fionna is definitely a heroine for the ages! I love strong women in fiction, and her ferocity, warrior prowess, and loyalty to her family made me love her from the start. This is definitely a series you don't want to miss out on!

So, I got this book when it was for free during a sale. I was excited because I love tales revolving around Arthurian myths but I just couldn't get pass the 30% mark. I'm giving it 3 stars because I'm pretty sure it had more to do with me than the book, I just wasn't feeling it, you know? I was in a massive book hangover and I went through and stopped reading about half a dozen books before I found one that really clicked. Anyway, this story...I don't really have anything bad about the part that I read and like I said, I only got to about 30%. The storytelling seemed okay and the layers surrounding the main character was just being unfolded. It is a reverse harem, which I (personally) like but I know that some people get their knickers in a twist easily. Ergo, if that's you, this book won't be a good fit. Moving on, I didn't really notice any errors, or if there were a few, they didn't take me out of the flow.Basically, would I recommend this book? Sure, give it a chance. I'm keeping it on my kindle for whenever I get back into the mood for this sort of story. Hopefully, I won't be in another book hangover. <3
